This is a good city for writers. We have a rich culture of creative persons and the arts, and literature is certainly included. In a city that boasts many author events, literary readings, and open mic opportunities, Sarabande Books presents more opportunities for the writers among you: they have just announced their writing contests and special publishing opportunities for the year of 2015.
+ The Mary McCarthy Prize in Short Fiction: Submit a manuscript of 150-250 pages of original short fiction. Prizes include $2000 cash and the publication of a collection of short stories or novellas or of a short novel. Submissions are accepted until February 15.
+ The Kathryn A. Morton Prize in Poetry: Submit a manuscript of at least 48 pages of original poetry. Prizes include $2000 cash and publication of a full-length collection of poetry. Submissions are accepted until February 15.
+ The Linda Bruckheimer Series in Kentucky Literature: Submit literary works set in or about Kentucky. Manuscript lengths vary by type of literature. Submit manuscripts during the month of July.
+The Sarabande Writing Residency at Bernheim Forest: Apply during August or September for the opportunity to be Writer-in-Residence at Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest.
+ Flo Gault Student Poetry Prize: This prize is open to college students, who may submit up to three poems. First prize is $500 cash. This contest takes place from September 1 to November 15.
+ Open Submissions: Sarabande accepts for publishing consideration collections of poetry, short stories, and novellas in the month of September. Original essay collections are accepted year round.
