A new episode of the original web series, Music Makes a City Now, debuts today, featuring a host of Louisville's native musical talent across many genres. From the University of Louisville's music school to the internationally acclaimed indie artist Bonnie Prince Billy, this special Music Makes a City event (MMAC14) brought together Louisville artists across the spectrum. If you missed the live show at Portland's Tim Faulkner Gallery in December of 2014, you can get a taste of the evening's unique flavor in this episode.
The Music Makes a City Now [4] web series follows the first-year adventures of Louisville Orchestra Music Director Teddy Abrams [5], and along the way offers a behind-the-scenes glimpse of our talented orchestra musicians, visiting featured artists, and lots of local talent. It is brought to you by the same team that produced the award-winning film documentary [6] that chronicled the history of the Louisville Orchestra from it's beginnings in the 1930s, backed by Mayor Charles Farnsley and led by legendary Conductor Robert Whitney.
On December 6 of last year the Tim Faulkner Gallery hosted a one-of-kind collaboration between Maestro Abrams and genre-bending impresario Jecorey [7]Arthur [7] of the band 1200. Together, they organized a showcase of local music that featured the University of Louisville chamber orchestra, Tiny Elephant, Kyle James Hauser, A Lion Named Roar, 1200, and Will Oldham's band Bonnie Prince Billy. It was a celebration of Louisville's rich musical tapestry that highlighted diversity and community.
