Gone but not Forgotten: 18 Restaurants Louisville Lost in 2014 [2]

The new Louisville restaurants in 2014 have gotten so much hype, and for that we’re glad. But we haven’t forgotten these 18 gone-but-not-forgotten places around Louisville. RIP.

1. La Gallo Rosso  [4]

The Italian restaurant was replaced by Roux at 1325 Bardstown Rd.

2. La Coop [5]

The upscale but small NuLu French restaurant will have their last hurrah New Year's Eve. The small space was cited as a possible reason for La Coop's closure.

3. Earth Friends [6]Café [6]

Take note, only the NuLu branch of Earth Friends closed. The location at 300 W. Market St. is alive and well.  [7]

4. Taco Punk [8]

Long, long story short [9], Taco Punk couldn't keep up business to the degree needed to stay open, claiming construction that blocked NuLu from the downtown lunch crowd played a role in the restaurant's demise. Never fear, though, you can still get your Taco Punk fix at Bank Street Brewhouse.  [10]

5. Perkfection Cafe [11]

Perkfection's kitchen closed on December 20, and the coffee portion of the business will be open until January 15. Make sure to stop by and show them some love!

6. Gavi's Restaurant [12]

After 33 years open in Louisville, Gavi's Restaurant closed its doors on December 20.

7. Mulligan's [13]

Mulligan's, which used to be Kaelin's, which allegedly gave the world the cheeseburger, closed very suddenly with no fanfare November 12.

8. Baby D's  [14]

The deli closed August 22, and has been replaced by Rumplings, our very own ramen shop.

9. Papalinos on Baxter [15]

Papalinos on Baxter is closed (and there are rumors of a new Martinez restaurant going into the space!) but the Springhurst location is still open and serving! [16]

10. The Place Downstairs  [17]

Speaking of the Martinezes, their Place Downstairs from Mussel & Burger Bar transitioned to the more area-friendly Cena Italian Trattoria.  [17]

11. Relish  [18]

The beautiful waterfront restaurant announced their closing April 10. Owner Susan Seiller told Business First t [19]he business model for the restaurant "wasn't viable."

12. De La Torre’s  [20]

Maggie and Miguel De La Torre decided to retire after 25 years, and sold their primely-located Highlands restaurant. It became Louvino!

13. [21]Zaytun [21] Mediterranean Grill [21]

According to WDRB [22], a court order forced Zaytun to close its doors. According to the article, they were 8 months behind on rent.

14. The Brewery [23]

Technically we lost the Brewery, but we gained Ward 426, so that feels like a win. The Louisville Eats Good team revamped the whole restaurant.

15. Dundee Tavern [24]

We lost the Dundee Tavern and gained the Dundee Gastropub. So, another win!

16. Thai-Siam [25]

Louisville's oldest Thai restaurant closed in 2014.

17. Erika’s German Restaurant [26]

Erika's German Restaurant had a fiercely loyal following, but their location was not the best for business.

18. CeFiore  [27]

Sadly, the only CeFiore in Kentucky closed, probably from the stiff competition: another frozen yogurt shop has consistently lived right across the way, and that Louisville behemoth of frozen goodness, the Comfy Cow, moved into the old Heine Bros location a half block from CeFiore. C'est la vie, CeFiore.
