The University of Louisville men’s and women’s basketball teams started their seasons off on the right foot.

The men’s team began with an 81-68 win over Minnesota in the Armed Forces Classic on Friday night Puerto Rico. Meanwhile the women’s team won its season-opener 89-69 Friday evening at IUPUI, then defeated UT-Martin 77-43 in its home opener Sunday afternoon at the KFC Yum! Center.

In the 12th-ranked Lady Cards’ victory over the host Jaguars, freshman Mariya Moore tallied a game-high 22 points in her collegiate debut while senior guard Bria Smith contributed 15 points and freshman Myisha Hines-Allen added 11.

Then against the Skyhawks, all five starters scored in double figures to lead Louisville to victory. Hines-Allen and Smith scored 14 points apiece while Moore tallied 12. Seniors Sara Hammond and Jude Schimmel added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The Cards next host Belmont at 7 p.m. Thursday night.

  • The

    14th-ranked

    men’s soccer team suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 double-overtime loss to Clemson in the ACC Tournament in Cary, N.C. The

    19th-ranked

    Tigers scored with 3 seconds left in regulation to force OT. Then, after a scoreless 10-minute period, Clemson scored the game-winner on

    Ara

    Amirkhanian’s

    goal in the

    105th

    minute. Louisville led most of the way after Ricardo

    Velazco

    headed in Andrew Brody’s cross in the

    13th

    minute. The Cards defeated No. 1 Syracuse 2-1 in Friday’s semifinals thanks to goals from Will

    .

    UofL

    (10-7-3) will see where it lands in the NCAA Tournament field of 48 at 1 p.m. Monday afternoon when the pairings are released at ncaa.com.

  • The

    10th-ranked

    field hockey team lost to No. 8 Stanford 2-1 in overtime in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday in

    Storrs

    , Conn. The Cardinal took the early lead 3:12 into the match, but

    UofL

    junior Elisa Garcia got the equalizer late in the first half. The two teams remained deadlocked at 1-all until the fourth minute of OT when Stanford’s Alex

    McCawley

    scored the game-winner.

    ends its season 15-6.

  • UofL cross country runners Edwin

    Kibichiy

    and Ernest

    Kibet

    earned invites to the NCAA Championships after strong performances in the NCAA Southeast Regional, where the men finished eighth and the women

    finished second and third, respectively, in the 10,000-meter race. Emily

  • The fifth-ranked men’s swimming and diving team topped No. 11 Auburn and No. 14 Tennessee while the

    women’s swimming and diving squad fell to No. 14 and No. 7 Auburn Friday afternoon in a meet in Knoxville,

    led the men’s team, which took down the Tigers 171-129 and the Volunteers 167.5-130.5, with a pair of individual victories while

  • The volleyball team split its final ACC road matches of the season. The Cards swept host Clemson on Friday night before being swept by

  • The women’s rowing team posted a runner-up finish in the varsity eight race at the University of Virginia’s
