The Weekly Bite: Taco Punk Pop-Up, Holy Crepe, and Pappy Shots [2]

Eat & Swig [1]
By Elizabeth Myers [3]

Starters:

  • 8UP opened its doors Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights to offer the public free food  [4](but not free drinks!) from their "progressive American" bar and dinner menus. They will open to the public on November 17, 2014.
  • For Goodness Crepes [5] is coming to 619 Baxter Avenue. You can check out their Facebook Page here [6]!
  • Feast BBQ (2) [7]has been health-department approved at their Nulu location. Get hyped.

  • Rumplings has gotten an almost crazy amount of buzz [8] in the first week and a half they've been open, and my social media has been swimming in noodle shots. It seems Louisville really DID need a real ramen shop.

  • Atlantic No. 5's popular pop-up A5 is now a permanent thing [9], starting November 12. Read more here and make your reservations.  [9]

  • Roux [10] is now doing brunch, and this scotch egg (Cajun egg?) from their Instagram is making me hungry.

  • Kevin Grangier, of the Village Anchor Pub & Roost, is taking over KT's restaurant and bar, [11] and will be changing the concept and shaking things up in 2015. In the meantine, KT's will continue to operate as KT's.
  • Bobby Flay might be coming to Louisville, but really, who knows. Is this all a tease [12]?
  • Bourbon Barrel Foods is opening their first retail location [13].
  • Huffington Post named Louisville a top foodie destination [14]. Tell us something we don't know!

Endings:

  • Mulligan's Pub & Grille [15] has closed its doors, effective November 12. The Facebook post that announced the closing literally contained the words: "I have no idea why, so please don't ask me." Mulligan's is located where Kaelin's (allegedly the birthplace of the cheeseburger!) was at 1801 Newburg Road.

  • Perkfection Cafe in Jeffersonville is closing as of November 15. [16]

Booze News:

  • To the chagrin of many, Meta [17] used some of their precious Pappy Van Winkle to make Jell-o shots. Honestly, they were legitimately delicious, and several hundred people who would probably never try the ultra-rare bourbon otherwise got a taste. I agree, Pappy should be happy.

  • Speaking of Meta, they also have a new menu they've been teasing on their instagram [18].

Eventful:

  • Hubble Rumble in the Hood at Lilly's Bistro [19]
  • Fall Harvest Feast Wine dinner at Varanese [20]
  • Beer and Loathing in Louisville [21]
  • On November 21 and 22 there will be a Taco Punk pop-up at Bank Street Brewhouse in New Albany. The post announcing the pop-up ends with [22]: "We think the combination of Taco Punk and NABC is a good one. If the pop-up goes well...who knows?"
  • Louisville's Magazine's SWIG Celebration [23]
