Bit to Do [1]
By Maggie Kimberl [3]

The biggest news in bourbonland this week is the economic impact study that was released Tuesday.  The study was conducted by two UofL professors and financed by The Kentucky Distillers’ Association and the Kentucky Agricultural Development Fund.  Among the more notable findings, Kentucky distills 40% of America’s spirits and employment in the bourbon industry has risen 23% since 2010.  What I personally find so impressive about the bourbon industry in Kentucky is that it remains stable during economic downturns.  That means all the growth will help stabilize Kentucky’s economy into the future.  Read more about the study here [4].

Copper and Kings Distillery is officially open for business.  Public tours will start November 1.  Click here [5]to read about the opening.  They also published an interesting blog post yesterday about Kentucky’s claim of the first commercial vineyard in America.  Read about that here [6].  Apparently we’ve been pretty big in the alcohol business since the beginning.

Heather Greene, a whiskey sommelier turned writer from New York City, will be at The Silver Dollar October 28 at 6:30 signing her new book, Whiskey Distilled.  You can buy a copy here [7].

Michter’s in Shively installed their stills today, bringing them one step closer to being able to distil their own spirits.  Read more about that here [8].

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to start a craft whiskey brand, check out this [9]prominent story about Chip Tate and Balcones in Texas.

Bourbon Truth put together a fun quiz to test your bourbon knowledge.  Check that out here [10].

Why is it so hard to recommend a bourbon?  Read all about the process here [11].
