Waterfront Fashion Week at Waterfront Park The inaugural Waterfront Fashion Week features a series of fashion-focused events and fundraisers benefiting Louisville’s Waterfront Development Corporation. Based on nationally known New York Fashion Week, this local event will bring national models and designers to Louisville for four days of fashion shows, competitions and parties. The events are open to the public who purchase tickets. Oct. 17-20 Macbeth at Iroquois Amphitheater Iroquois Amphitheater presents Shakespeare's violent tragedy of loss, desire, ambition and murder. Macbeth is a great warrior praised by the king for his bravery and loyalty. But persuaded by his wife, he turns to murder to ensure the outcome of a prophecy. The achievement of power comes at a terrible cost as bloody execution becomes the order of the day, and paranoia and madness take hold. Oct. 18, 7:30 p.m. Maker's Mark Monthly Wine Dinner at Maker's Mark Bourbon House and Lounge Maker's Mark presents its monthly wine dinner, complete with a three-course dinner and wine pairing. Oct. 18, 6 p.m.
Pinktober at Hard Rock Cafe Hard Rock Cafe Louisville presents its Pinktober event featuring Phillip Phillips, Andy Grammer, Tristan Prettyman and Graffiti 6. All proceeds will benefit the Louisville Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Oct. 19, 6 p.m. Howl at the Moon at Jefferson Memorial Forest Forest staff will lead owners and their pooches on a hike through the woods. Non-retractable leashes and good behavior are required. As a courtesy to other dogs, please make sure all pets are up to date on their vaccinations. Meet in the Horine Reservation. Each participating dog receives a free sample of Milkbone Trail Mix for Dogs, while quantities last. Oct. 19, 7 p.m. Job Seekers Conference at Louisville Free Public Library The Job Seekers Conference presents an opportunity for the unemployed, underemployed, and those seeking other employment. Community volunteers, employers, speakers, and support service providers are coming together to help with issues of employment, healthcare, housing, daycare services, and more. Some 20 employers will be on location, including LG&E, JCPS, Kentucky One Health, UPS, GE, Hyatt Regency, Hosparus, Louisville Metro Government, and Brown-Forman. Oct. 19, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
orKIDStra 1: Halloween Spooktacular at the Brown Theatre Part of the Louisville Orchestra's YUM! Family Series, orKIDStra allows families to explore the wonders of orchestral music together with family-themed programming. This week's concert will include Jason Seber as the guest conductor. Kids should wear their Halloween costumes for a special on-stage parade. Oct. 20, 11 a.m. Colorfest 2012 at Bernheim Forest This festival features affordable family fun, including nature-related activities for kids, live entertainment and refreshments from the Bernheim Grill. Oct. 20-21, 10 a.m. Civil War Walking Tour at Cave Hill Cemetery Enjoy a tour with Bryan Bush, Civil War author and historian, to learn about Cave Hill Cemetery's many connections to the Civil War. The tour begins at the Broadway entrance. All proceeds benefit the Cave Hill Heritage Foundation. Oct. 20, 9 a.m. Keller Williams in Concert at Headliner's Since he first appeared on the scene in the early '90s, Williams has defined the term independent artist. And his recordings tell only half the story. Keller built his reputation initially on his engaging live performances, no two of which are ever alike. Oct. 20, 9 p.m. (Doors open at 8 p.m.)
October McAlpine Lock Cruise on the Belle of Louisville The historic steamboat Belle of Louisville will be going through McAlpine Lock a second time this fall. Going through a river lock on a steamboat is memorable, and there will be a narrator on board to explain lock operation. A live bluegrass band will also provide musical entertainment, so it will be a fun and full afternoon. Guests can partake in an optional buffet lunch (depending on available space and advance reservations are required) or come on board for sightseeing only. Please note that return times are not guaranteed, and river conditions will dictate where the boat goes on this cruise. Oct. 21, 12:30 p.m. Judith C. Owens-Lalude Book Signing at Carmichael's Bookstore Carmichael's welcomes Judith C. Owens-Lalude for a book signing and discussion of her new book The Long Walk : From Slavery to Freedom. Ms. Owens-Lalude is the great-granddaughter of George Henry “Pap” Johnson, who was born in 1850 and was enslaved with his mother, Clarissa. They lived on a six-hundred-acre farm less than an hour’s drive from Louisville. The Long Walk is their inspiring story of love, hope and courage. Oct. 21, 4 p.m. String Theory Concert at Historic Locust Grove Victor Penniman performs music of Marin Marais and other French composers on viola da gamba. The Chamber Music series allows you to experience music much as the Croghans and Clarks would have, in the Great Parlor of the 1790's historic house. Oct. 21, 5 p.m. |
