Carmichael's Bookstore is hosting New York Times bestselling author Carl Hiaasen next Tuesday, September 30.
Do you give a Hoot about Carl Hiaasen? I bet you do. The acclaimed bestselling author is coming to Louisville at an event put on by Carmichael's Bookstore [4]. He will be speaking on Tuesday, September 30, 7pm at Louisville Collegiate School. This ticketed event will be a reading and signing of Hiaasen's newest book, Skink No Surrender.
According to Carmichael's website, "Hiaasen's newest novel once again serves up his unique brand of swamp-justice, & appeals again to teens and adults alike. Mr. Hiaasen first introduced readers to Skink more than twenty-five years ago in Double Whammy, and he quickly became Mr. Hiaasen's most iconic and beloved character, appearing in six novels to date. New and long-time readers will be thrilled..." I know Hiaasen mostly for his children's book Hoot, which he wrote in 2002 and for which he won the Newbery Honor award in 2003. As a children's librarian, I used this young adult novel to my reader's advisory advantage countless times. Youngsters would come into the library, looking for a good, clean, down to earth novel with some humor and a life lesson: I led them to the H's in the J Fiction section and handed them this simple covered book with two owl eyes staring back at them. They always took it graciously. Those who attend this author event will absolutely have a great time and most likely a good laugh.
