My fingers are poised on the keyboard... how do I begin to talk about the amazing show Ok Go put on at Headliners?  It’s not like I have writer’s block, in a way it’s the opposite (writers flood?).  As I flip through my mental rolodex of all the wonderful memories I have from that show, I realize organizing them in cohesive manner is trickier than I thought.

The show begins with a drop of a sheer white curtain.  A projector then plays a montage of various clips all saying the words “Ok” and “Go”.  After Kermit the Frog introduces the band the images disappear and the band is now visible.  Kicking off their set with an adrenaline pumping number from their new EP, the crowd was instantly electrified.  Fueled by confetti bursting forth from the stage, the audience remained pumped till the very end.

My favorite part about going to a show is not just listening to the great music being played, but the feeling you get when you witness something special.  Something that wouldn’t happen unless you were there.  Ok Go have the right mixture to really lure in listeners and make them feel right at home.  Front man Damian Kulash led the band with funny stories of their first concert in Louisville and even had a question and answer session from fans.  At one point they brought out their inner nerd and recorded sounds that the audience made (clapping, stomping, etc.) and then turned it into the music for another one of their genius songs.

But don’t be fooled by their ability use all the latest technology, they know how to come back to their roots.  Before fans knew it Damian was off the stage and wading through throngs of people to make it to the center of the room.  There set up on a small platform was a microphone.  Armed with only an acoustic guitar and his voice he proved to listeners just how talented Ok Go can be (CAUTION: watch your step, swoonage all over the place!).  Of course at the end of the set the band is beckoned to come back one more time for an encore.  The crowd is pumped and they aren’t ready to say goodbye just yet.  At the conclusion of their last song they swarm the stage to join the band.  Louisville really showed just how much they appreciate a wonderful performance.

If you missed the concert… well, I’m sorry.  I can tell you it was PHENOMENAL!  But never fear, their new album

Hungry Ghosts
