Now entering their eighth season, Bourbon Baroque is Louisville’s leading period instrument ensemble.  (They are also a finalist for this year’s Louisville Music Award for Classical Music!) [4]  The group’s offerings over the next year span everything from orchestral literature to complete stage productions.  Grab a glass and get to at least one of these concerts!

September 14th and 15th, 2014:

Bach’s Wine: Music to Your Lips

Collaborating with baroque flutist

Leela

Breithaupt

, the ensemble will present music of Bach and

Telemann

.  The evening is centered around Bach’s Orchestral Suite No. 2 as guided by local historian Dean

Karns

who will be on hand to explain the composer’s brilliant work.  Both performances are to take place at Old 502 Winery on

10th

Street.

November 29th and 30th, 2014:

Händel’s Messiah

Soprano Emily Albrink Katz, mezzo-soprano Audrey Walstrom, tenor Steven Paul Spears and baritone Jim Rittenhouse join forces with the ensemble for a presentation of seasonal works that includes Händel’s masterful oratorio,

Messiah

.  Performances will be held at St. Brigid Catholic Church on Hepburn Avenue.

March 14th, 2015:

Dido and Aeneas

Don’t

lament

[5]

missing this performance of Purcell’s classic early opera!  Teaming up with soprano Kristine Hurst and baritone Chad Sloan (as Dido and Aeneas respectively), the ensemble heads to Bomhard Theater at the Kentucky Center for a night of queenly passion and unscrupulous witchcraft.

Ticket information can be found online here [6].  Admission is $20 for

Bach’s Wine

and Händel's

Messiah

and $25 for

Dido and Aeneas

.  For more information about Bourbon Baroque’s upcoming season, check out its blog [7].
