Previewing the Kentucky Opera 2014-15 Season [2]

Contemporary shows mix with classic works during Kentucky Opera's 2014-15 season, which kicks off with a party tonight.

During its season, Kentucky Opera will present four productions: Fidelio (September), The Girl of the Golden West (November), A Streetcar Named Desire (February 2015), and A Woman in Morocco (May 2015). Performances for the first three shows will take place at the Brown Theatre, located at 315 W Broadway [4] in downtown Louisville. A Woman in Morocco will be at the Victor Jory Theatre, located in Actors Theatre at 316 W Main Street [5], also in downtown Louisville.

Season subscriptions are now on sale for the first three shows, ranging in price from $86-$182 for Friday performances or $86-$176 for Sunday performances. Subscription information and purchases can be made at the Kentucky Opera [6] website. Tickets for A Woman in Morocco, not part of the subscriptions, can also be purchased for an additional $25 person. Single tickets for the first three shows will go on sale Aug. 11.

A kickoff party is tonight, Aug. 7, from 5-9 p.m. at the Kentucky Center for the Arts, located at 501 W Main Street [4]. Enjoy live performances, champagne from Korbel, giveaways, backstage tours, and more during this event. The Lambert and Lindsey Morning Show will be broadcasting from the event from 5-7 p.m. Tommy Lee from Easy Rock 105.1 will also be broadcasting.

The season begins with Fidelio (Sept. 19 and 21), Beethoven's only opera, the includes a sadistic warden, a cross-dressing heroine, and other complex and intertwined characters. 

Following is The Girl of the Golden West (Nov. 14 and 16), featuring a woman who will go to any length to protect her outlaw lover. 

Around Valentine's Day comes A Streetcar Named Desire (Feb. 13 and 15), which brings the classic Tennessee Williams play-turned-movie into operatic form. 

Closing out the season will A Woman in Morocco (May 15 and 17), featuring a travel writer who has her life turned upside down during a stay at a run-down pensione.
