Women 4 Women Annual Luncheon at the Galt House One of our nation’s top financial experts, Jean Chatzky, will educate and inspire. With more than 1,500 attendees expected, this event is the largest of its kind and has been called the premiere event for women. At Women 4 Women, we believe that when you educate a woman, you educate a family. And when you educate a family you have an educated community. Sept. 13, 12-1:15 p.m. The Macadelic Tour featuring Mac Miller and more at Broadbent Arena Pittsburgh native Mac Miller developed a reputation for delivering jaw‐dropping freestyles growing up and signed his first deal with Rostrum Records in July 2010. Selling over a million singles total, Miller’s EP, “On and On and Beyond,” sold more than 60,000 copies digitally. Joining Miller is the group Travis Porter, which has collaborated with artists such as Roscoe Dash, Tyga and Waka Flaka Flame. Rapper YG’s debut album “4 Hunnid Degreez” was released March 2012. Sept. 13, 7-11 p.m. 'Wicked: The Musical' at the Kentucky Center On Broadway and around the world, Wicked has worked its magic on critics and audiences alike. Winner of 35 major awards, including a Grammy and three Tony Awards, Wicked is “Broadway’s biggest blockbuster” and “the defining musical of the decade” according to The New York Times. Sept. 12-30
Picnic Under the Trees with Nervous Melvin and the Mistakes at Oxmoor Farm Join The Filson for its annual Picnic Under the Trees at Oxmoor Farm. This year, it welcomes Nervous Melvin and the Mistakes, one of Louisville’s most successful and longest-lasting bands. Along with their original music, the band draws from a list of more than 700 songs from artists such as The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Rolling Stones and U2. Sept. 14, 6 p.m. Opening Reception of Anne Kindl's "Symphony in Pastel" at the Brown Hotel Lexington artist and designer Anne Kindl will present her latest works at a new Gallery at The Brown art show. The exhibit runs through Nov. 2. Sept. 14, 6-8 p.m. 'Dracula' at Actors Theatre The vampire hunt is on. Experience the Louisville Halloween tradition that drips with suspense and even more blood. This celebrated gothic screamfest is jam-packed with plenty of thrills and chills to keep you on the edge of your seat. Sept. 14-Oct. 3,
2012 Downtown Living Tour The Louisville Downtown Management District is hosting this annual event, which will showcase more than 10 units in downtown Louisville including condos, lofts and apartments. Free shuttle service is provided and Louisville Downtown Residents Association members will be on hand to share their firsthand experiences about what it’s like to live downtown. Sept. 15, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Fall Plant Sale at Bernheim Forest The sale will feature Bernheim Select, a distinctive variety of plants propagated from Bernheim’s own collections, along with a varied selection of other unique trees, shrubs, grasses, and perennial herbaceous plants. This event is perfectly tailored for year-round interest in your home landscape. All plants are suitable for north central Kentucky growing. Horticulture staff will help you make the right selections and answer your gardening questions. Ask about great replacement plants for invasive species that may be growing at home. Sept. 15, 9 a.m.–4 p.n. Knight for a Princess at the Frazier History Museum Time to party like the royals— in honor of the people’s princess. Groove to the beat of our DJ, have exhibition access to Diana: A Celebration and enjoy tasty hors d’oeuvres and one free signature drink. A portion of proceeds will benefit House of Ruth. Downtown Doubler 15K/30K The Downtown Doubler is a 15k course that starts and finishes downtown. For those seeking a longer race, complete the 15k loop a second time for a 30k finish. Sept. 16, 7:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Gabriel Iglesias at the Palace Gabriel Iglesias's high-octane show is a sure-fire hit: a mixture of storytelling, parodies, characters and sound effects that bring all his personal experiences to life. Gabriel’s clean and animated comedy style has earned national crossover appeal, making him popular among fans of all ages. Ask anyone who has seen him in concert and you will probably hear the same thing, “Fluffy was SO funny!” Sept. 16, 7-8:30 p.m. Gaslight Festival at Jeffersontown Gaslight Square What started as a small street party in 1969 and has grown to become the fifth largest festival in the region and has taken its place as one of the top 20 in the southeast. The Gaslight Festival, hosted by The Chamber, brings an estimated 200,000 visitors to Jeffersontown every year. Centered in the small-town ambience of Gaslight Square, the Festival has evolved into a eight-day extravaganza that has become a time-honored tradition of Jeffersontown. The festival now boasts a motorcycle rally and car show; a golf scramble; a 5K run/walk; a parade; balloon glow; children's playground; live entertainment; and more than 140 arts, crafts and commercial booths.
