! Be sure to catch this enthusiastic young ensemble in a performance of pops classics from the stage and screen.
Led by Juilliard alumnus Daniel Spurlock (whose résumé includes former Assistant Conductor of the Louisville Orchestra), the Philharmonia held its inaugural concert in the spring of 2012. Featuring “
a group of serious amateur and semi-professional orchestral players”, the Philharmonia was born out of a perceived need in the community for high-level orchestral playing. The ensemble is also completely musician-led with a board of directors made up of playing members hence its being dubbed “The Musician’s Orchestra”.
Continuing its impressive upward trajectory as one of the city’s top ensembles, the Philharmonia will showcase next week pops favorites like Gershwin’s rhapsodic
American in Paris
and Lloyd Webber’s haunting
Phantom of the Opera
. Other highlights include Leroy Anderson’s clever
Typewriter
(which actually requires a typewriter), Reinhold
Gli
è
re’s
boisterous
Russian Sailor’s Dance
and Howard Shore’s epic score from
Lord of the Rings
.
The concert is next Thursday, June
26th
