This Sunday, Thoroughbred Chorus, one of the most celebrated choral ensembles in the region, will perform at the Ogle Center of Indiana University Southeast alongside Cardinal Rule, the University of Louisville’s hot new
acapella
singing group.
Dedicated to “excellence in singing, musical education and the preservation and enrichment of acappella barbershop harmony”, the all-male Thoroughbred Chorus has been a powerhouse ensemble in Louisville for generations. A part of the Barbershop Harmony Society, the Thoroughbreds have won its international championship seven times since its founding in 1945. They have also since produced several championship quartets like Bluegrass Student Union, Interstate Rivals, Second Edition and The Barons.
In its nearly seventy-year history, Thoroughbred Chorus has traveled and competed from coast to coast. In that time, it helped to dedicate the Kentucky International Convention Center, debuted U of L’s spirit song and performed for both the Governor of Kentucky and President George H.W. Bush.
In its continued pursuit of excellence, the Thoroughbreds are led by Music Director Drew Wheaton, a recent graduate of McGill University and graduate student at the University of Louisville School of Music who has been singing barbershop “since birth”.
In the next gate on Sunday is Cardinal Rule, the
acapella
singing group that has been energizing U of L’s campus in recent months with performances like this [4]. The marriage of these two ensembles promises to be a fantastic evening of music.
