Rosalind, a daughter of Broken Vow for trainer Kenny McPeek, comes in off a seven length victory in Keeneland’s Grade 1 Central Bank Ashland Stakes in which she dead-heated with graded stakes winner Room Service. The pair earned a Brisnet speed figure of 100 for the effort. Rosalind typically stalks the field, so the race may set up nicely for a closer like her. Rosalind will break from post 4 under jockey Joel Rosario.
On-track observation:
I’ve given you my handicapping analysis, but now let me tell you my on-track analysis of the aforementioned fillies.
Untapable moves smoothly over the track and is a gorgeous filly. Observing her in the paddock schooling the other day, she was calm, but curious, pricking up her ears and standing tall in the stall taking it all in. She’s a diva. I would rename her Untapable Diva!
My Miss Sophia also looked good both on-track and in the paddock. I saw nothing to knock her, but nothing particularly memorable either.
Rosalind was different. Rosalind caught my attention on day one. Although I did not have the opportunity to observe her in the paddock, I saw her three days in the morning works. She’s just stunning and the one horse I saw all week that had me asking, “Who’s that?” The one horse that did that for me last year was Kentucky Derby runner-up Golden Soul.
The field for the 140th running of the Kentucky Oaks, from the rail out with odds (jockey), is: Please Explain 50-1 (Jose Lezcano), Ria Antonia 10-1 (Mike Smith), Sugar Shock 12-1 (Calvin Borel), Rosalind 8-1 (Joel Rosario), Thank you Marylou 30-1 (Julien Leparoux), Kiss Moon 30-1 (Victor Espinoza), Fashion Plate 6-1 (Gary Stevens), Aurelia’s Belle 50-1 (Channing Hill), Unbridled Forever 12-1 (Shaun Bridgemohan), Empress of Midway 50-1 (Corey Nakatani), My Miss Sophia 8-1 (Javier Castellano), Got Lucky 20-1 (John Velazquez), and Untapable 4-5 (Rosie Napravnik).
The Kentucky Oaks is the 11th race on Friday’s card with a scheduled post time of 5:45 p.m. ET. The Oaks will be aired live as part of the NBC Sports Network’s coverage from 5-6 p.m. ET. The race is included in Horse Racing Radio Network’s coverage from 3-6 p.m. ET. Replays will run on HRTV and TVG. Click here [4] for free PPs from Brisnet.
