A dream that began with Louisville natives Kate and Rachel has quickly turned into a reality for the dynamic duo. This is the pairs second year selling their hats after the creations they made for themselves for several years started to draw the attention of fellow race goers. The girls were approached several times over the years and asked to sell their hats right off their heads. That's where Hat Girls was born.
In High School Kate and Rachel had dreams of starting a clothing line and often dreamed about where their dreams would be take them. Kate attended Columbia in New York City where her love for fashion was kicked into over drive. Combining their love for fashion, their hometown, and of course Derby their creations have garnered the eye of many race goers.
This year The Hat Girls carry three lines. Starting with their high end couture line, which is what they originally got into the business with. Their vintage line, where they gather vintage hats from store in Brooklyn, re-purpose, and spruce up classic styles with their unique flare. Last but not least, their on trend collection that's within everyone's budget.
Currently the duo makes all their own fascinators, and have the plan to travel to Australia to learn the art of hat making. The girls hope to develop a line of hats that embody their young and hip personality, while staying accessible to multiple markets. You can view the full collection on their website [4] and keep up to date with all their happenings on their Facebook page [5]. They also do custom orders by appointment at their hat shop as well as at Pink Julep in Chenoweth Square. For this Derby season they are already confirmed to sell in Pink Julep, Clodhoppers, Pink Door, and Blink Boutique with their eye set on more shops!
