McLaughlin reported the day after Cairo Prince’s Holy Bull win that the Pioneerof the Nile colt was doing well, and the team was planning their next move. McLaughlin and owners Namcook Stables, Paul Braverman, Harvey A. Clarke, and W. Craig Robertson III teamed to take Soldat to an 11th place finish in the 2011 Kentucky Derby. It appears they would have a chance at a better Kentucky Derby finish with Cairo Prince.
“Obviously, the Fountain of Youth is next here in the series, so that’s what we’re going to look at,” said McLaughlin. “He’s a really, really nice horse, the kind everybody gets up early every day to come out and train. He makes our job easy.”
Cairo Prince returned $6.20, $4.40, and $3.20. Conquest Titan paid $8.60 and $4.80 and completed the $2 exacta for $69.40. Intense Holiday paid $6.40 and completed the $1 trifecta for $283.60. Almost Famous completed the $1 superfecta for $2,237.60. The final time for the 1 1/16 mile race over the fast dirt was 1:42.16.
