On October 15, it was announced that 65 cases of Pappy Van Winkle 20-year and 9 cases of Pappy Rye had gone missing. Considered one of the best (and rarest) bourbons, Pappy Van Winkle 20-year is selling on Craigslist [4] for $650+ a bottle, and is nearly impossible to find off the internet [5].
This afternoon in a press conference, the Franklin County Sheriff's department gave us an update to Pappygate. A $10,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest in the case of this stolen bourbon. According to the Daily Journal [6], Sheriff Pat Melton said that the reward could provide a "heck of a Christmas" for whoever provides information leading to an arrest in Pappygate.
Over 100 people have been questioned about the theft. The missing whiskey is valued at over $26,000. It is a suspected inside job.
