If you say "pumpkin spice latte" seven times in the mirror at midnight, a twenty-something in skinny jeans will appear holding the aforementioned beverage, squealing about how much she "looooovessss fall!" and instagraming a picture of her latte. All joking aside, the season of the pumpkin is upon us! Here are a few treats you can get around the 'Ville to satisfy the yearning:
Pumpkin Spice Latte
Not from Starbucks, I don't think an actual pumpkin has even sneezed into that drink. For a more authentic pumpkin spice latte, try the giant one at Toast [4] (pictured above) or the latte art embossed one in the cover picture, from Sunergos [5].
Pumpkin Donuts
Nord's [6] is doing a pumpkin donut with frosting, and The Amazing Glaze [7] has a pumpkin cake donut to die for. Both pastries are crumbly, moist, mildly spicy, and the perfect companion to a glass of hot apple cider.
Pumpkin Ice Cream
The Homemade Ice Cream and Pie Kitchen [8] is pretty known for their pumpkin ice cream, which tastes like someone mixed up a pumpkin pie with vanilla ice cream. You can get pumpkin ice cream at Huber's [9] and pretty soon at Harvest Homecoming [10].
Pumpkin Pie Oatmeal
Superchef's Breakfast [11]was out of the pumpkin pie oatmeal when I went, so instead here is a picture of me looking fetching and wishing for pumpkin pie oatmeal--pumpkin infused steel cut oats with a drizzle of maple syrup and a dollop of cream.
Pumpkin Ale
The Zanzabar [12] has Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale on tap. Holy Grale [13] has Dogfishhead Punkin Ale. You bet your boots that at some point (probably now) The Four Pegs [14] and Nach Bar [15] will have pumpkin beer, ale, whatever it is you kids are drinking these days.
