Young the Giant (formally The Jakes) is from Irvine, California. The band’s members are Sameer Gadhia (lead vocals), Jacob Tilley (guitar), Eric Cannata (guitar), Payam Doostzadeh (bass guitar) and Francois Comtois (drums). Young the Giant has a mildly intricate history: the original members met each other during high school, separated for college, had some band members leave, gained some new members, signed to Roadrunner Records and over time developed the eclectic/indie/rock music that makes them standout from other bands. Young the Giant has performed on televised shows like Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the 2011 MTV Music Awards, and The Today Show. They’re eponymous debut album has hit songs that include “My Body,” “Cough Syrup,” and “Apartment.” See them perform on Friday, July 12 at 9:15pm on the Boom Stage.
