An Acoustic Evening with Matisyahu with special guest Levi Robin comes to the Brown Theatre [4] Monday, February 4th. This acoustic concert starts at 7:30 PM with door opening at 7:00 PM. This is a reserved seating event with an approximate run time of two hours. Standard ticket prices are $45.00, $33.00, and $27.00 depending on where you sit. Kentucky Center Members get waved handling fees over the phone and a 15% discount on the $33.00 priced tickets making them $28.50.

If you are a fan of Walk Off the Earth, Bob or Ziggy Marley, SOJA, and/or Sublime than you should check out Matisyahu, a rap artist whose topics reflect on the glories of traditional Judaism over Reggae beats in a dancehall style. Matisyahu’s debut album, Shake Off the Dust… Arise, was released in 2004 under a Hasidic Jew persona wearing a black suit with a full untrimmed beard, long curls, and a wide-brimmed black hat worn over a yarmulke. It wasn’t until his second album, Youth, was released in March 2006 that Matisyahu captured national attention and a Grammy nomination in the Best Reggae Album category. In late 2011 the singer revealed his new look with a shaved head and payes cut. His 2012 album, Spark Seeker, is a more secular pop album which alludes to spiritual freedom and letting go of his trademark look, but still holds on to his characteristic mix of raps and vocals complimented by a blend of electronica and traditional Jewish instrumentation. Spark Seeker was produced by Kool Kojak who has previously worked with Ke$ha and Nicki Minaj.

I will be interested in seeing how Matisyahu has transformed over the past year as a musician and performer. His discography can be heard on Spotify.
