$300,000.
Yes, three hundred thousand dollars.
That is the amount of money Kids Acting Against Cancer [4] (KAAC) has raised and donated to local cancer research centers and cancer support institutions since the program’s inception.
And that donation is about to increase.
This week, KAAC is set to perform their 2013 production, And Then There Were None, a modern adaptation of the Agatha Christie murder mystery, Ten Little Indians.
The story follows ten strangers who are invited to a remote island for a relaxing weekend vacation. But as time goes by, the guests keep turning up dead; and those who remain discover a murderer in their midst.
Though this is their first foray into the non-musical genre, KAAC has been producing shows since it was formed in Louisville in 1999 by Whitten and Jaclyn Montgomery, whose mother had been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
From the humble beginnings of the original production in a home basement, the non-profit has graduated to a stage in the Kentucky Center, utilizing their over 100 pre-school through college-aged members to facilitate all areas of production.
And Then There Were None performances are scheduled for this Thursday, January 10th through Saturday, January 13th at 8pm at the MeX in the Kentucky Center. There will be a matinee performance on Saturday at 2pm.
Tickets are $18 for adults, $12 for students & seniors and $8 for children 12 and under. They may be purchased online [5], by calling the box office at 800-775-7777, or at the door (if available).
100% of the proceeds from the performances will be donated to the Kosair pediatric Hematology/Oncology Clinic and to Gilda’s Club [6] of Louisville.
There will be a Producers’ Reception prior to the show on Friday, January 11th, from 6-7:15 at Porcini Restaurant [7]. The $70 ticket price includes pizza, wine, salad, a silent auction, and a ticket to the evening’s 8pm performance. Tickets for the reception can be purchased by emailing KAACinc@gmail.com or by calling 502-593-1095.
