2012 NCAA Div. I Men's Basketball Championships—Second and and third Rounds—at the KFC Yum! Center Local teams rumored to be playing. March 15 and 17 Mary Poppins at the Kentucky Center Mary Poppins is everything you could ever want in a hit Broadway show. So get swept up in the fun of this high-flying musical the New York Post gives four out of four stars and calls “a perfect piece of musical theater.” Through March 18 Wah! Yoga, Chant, and Concert at the Clifton Center Join Wah! world-renowned recording artist and yoga teacher for three extraordinary events. The sound workshop focuses on Sanskrit mantra chanting. The yoga class will focus on energetic clearing, breathing, and alignment. The evening concert is call-and-response chanting with the Wah! band, rockin' the house. Wah!'s yoga combines elements of Bihar, Kundalini, and Anusara yoga and is suitable for all levels. March 15, 7 p.m.
Opening reception od Tools of the Trade: Fiber Art by Bette Levy at the Carnegie Center Enjoy refreshments and music by the Jamey Aebersold Jazz Quartet at the opening reception (free and open to the public) for "Tools of the Trade: Fiber Art by Bette Levy. Bette Levy is a Louisville fiber artist who is known for her embroidered artworks that explore the textures and patterns of the natural world. This exhibit will highlight her recent artworks that explore gender roles and tradition through conceptual crocheted pieces and paper quilts. March 16, 6–8 p.m. North Mississippi All-Stars at Headliners The North Mississippi Allstars were founded in 1996; a product of a special time for modern Mississippi country blues. RL Burnside, Jr. Kimbrough, Otha Turner and their musical families were at their peak; making classic records and touring the world. Brothers Luther and Cody Dickinson soaked up the music of their father, Jim Dickinson, and absorbed the North Mississippi Blues legacy while playing and shaking it down at the juke joints with their blues ancestors. Luther (guitar and vocals) and Cody (drums and vocals) joined up with bassist Chris Chew to form the core of their own band, The North Mississippi Allstars. Through the filter of generations of Mississippi Blues men, the Allstars pioneered their own blues-infused rock and roll. 18 and over event. March 16, 8–11 p.m. Cardinal Points Astronomy Stroll at Bernheim Arboretum Join Don Spain on this two-hour stroll around Lake Nevin, stopping at the four cardinal points of the lake. Share stories and learn legends and myths while you view the constellations and important stars that can be seen from these points. Bring your binoculars if you wish. Registration and payment due by 4:00 p.m. on the day prior to the start of the program. Call 502-955-8512 for last minute updates and changes due to weather. Rain date will be Saturday, March 17. This is Louisville's Biggest St. Patrick's Day Festival, featuring The Dan Band. You've seen them as the wedding and events singers in movies like Old School, The Hangover and Starsky and Hutch—now see them on the Live! stage. March 17, 12 p.m., Dan Band at 8 p.m. Spirit of Jefferson's mid-March basketball lunch and dinner cruises If you’re coming into Louisville for the mid-March basketball games and you’re looking for a break in the action, come on down to the Fourth Street Wharf and enjoy a lunch or dinner cruise on the riverboat Spirit of Jefferson. With two enclosed decks, she is a boat for all seasons. Enjoy a delicious buffet meal, and a two-hour trip on the Ohio River. 'The Importance of Being Earnest' at the Savage Rose Theater Charlie Sexton directs the Oscar Wilde classic. Through March 18 Rodgers & Hammerstein's 'Cinderella' at Anchorage School Theater Mummers & Minstrels presents Rodgers & Hammerstein's classic tale of Cinderella. Come enjoy an evening of singing, dancing, magic, and wonder where "impossible things" happen. Directed by Barb O'Daniel and musical direction by Elizabeth Huling. March 18, 2 p.m. March Gladness on the Indiana Upland Wine Trail Each of the nine Indiana Upland Wine Trail wineries will offer VIP treatment with wine tasting and guided wine and food pairings. This year they are doing an Around The World event where each winery will feature food from a different country. Some wineries may offer tours as well. March 17—18 |
