Bit to Do [1]

I wish somebody in the city, or the surrounding area, would open a classic drive-in theater specifically to showcase classic horror and grindhouse films. I'm no entrepreneur so I don't know what would go into this endeavor, but its seems like a pretty solid business idea. Our city has a rich culture of film lovers, with a decent subset fiercely devoted to old and obscure freakfests – hell, Wild and Woolly, a cornerstone of local business, made their reputation on such things, and they're going strong after fifteen years.

But, until someone takes my dream and makes it a reality, we will have to get our kicks at home movie parties, or the Louisville Gore Club, or, this weekend, midnight movies at Baxter Avenue Theater.

It is October, after all, and thus Midnights at the Baxter presents 1957's Curse of the Demon [4]

. Dana Andrews stars as Dr. John Holden, a skeptic out to expose cult leader Julian Karswell (Niall MacGinnis). Skepticism can be tainted by fear, though, and when Holden receives a death curse he decides to break it by returning the parchment to Karswell.

(Fun fact: Martin Scorsese declared

Curse of the Demon

to be one of the eleven scariest films of all time. Why eleven instead of the standard ten? I don't know. You'll have to ask him.)
