Did everybody have a good Fall break? Of course, not that that means anything if you're not in school, but for those who are, we hope you used it to full effect. But now school is back in session, and the Floyd Theater returns to their regular programming tonight.
Starting it off: The Raven [4]
, directed by the hyperkinetic James McTeigue (
V For Vendetta, Ninja Assassin
). John Cusack stars as the great Edgar Allan Poe, author of various and sundry macabre works of fiction and poetry. When murders inspired by his stories start occurring, he is asked to assist a detective in nabbing the killer.
The Raven
plays twice this evening, at 5:00 and 8:00.
With the weekend comes
What to Expect When You're Expecting [5]
– yes, the classic manual for impending parenthood, which has somehow been adapted into narrative film. The film stars just about everybody as it tells the story of five couples in various stages of pregnancy and parenthood as they laugh and love their way through the beginnings of this krrrrazy thing called life.
What to Expect When You're Expecting
plays Friday and Saturday at 5:00 and 8:00.
Also Friday night is a special midnight screening of the horror comedy
Evil Dead 2 [6].
Simultaneously a sequel to and reboot of
The Evil Dead
, Sam Raimi's classic reunites us with Ash (Bruce Campbell), who finds himself stuck in a cabin while the undead try their damnedest to kill everyone in sight. Best of all: this screening is free!
Admission for films (besides
Evil Dead 2
) is $1.50 for students and $3.00 for the general public. The Floyd Theater is located on the third floor of the Student Activities Center on the U of L campus (look for the clock tower). Further information can be found at the SAB Film Committee Facebook page [7].
