Alright, boys and girls, it's time for this week's edition of What's Playing at the Floyd Theater! Wherein we bring you up to date on the recent offerings at one of the most affordable and intimate movie theaters around, located in the heart of the University of Louisville campus amidst all those bright smiling youngsters who have yet to have their dreams dashed by the crushing weight of adult reality.

To the movies!

The week starts tonight (Thursday) with two screenings of Woody Allen's latest offering, To Rome With Love [4]

. Woody Allen is one of my favorite directors, but we fans of his have had to come to terms with the fact that he just doesn't make movies like he used to. We used to get

Manhattan, Interiors,

and

Stardust Memories

, and now we get things like

You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger

and

Scoop

. (However,

Midnight in Paris

was excellent, as was

Match Point

[watch

Crimes and Misdemeanors

first].) There is a saying, though: sex is like pizza – even when it's bad, it's still pretty good. That's how I feel about Woody Allen movies as well, and while

To Rome With Love

is... shall we say, lackluster... it's still a Woody Allen movie, thus worth watching. The film takes place in Rome and follows four separate storylines dealing primarily with the idea of celebrity and hero worship, in various Woody-Alleny ways.

To Rome With Love

plays at 5:00 and 8:00.

The weekend brings screenings of

Savages [5]

, the new film by Oliver Stone. The film stars Blake Lively as O, a girl dating simultaneously two men, Chon (Taylor Kitsch) and Ben (Aaron Johnson). They make a living growing marijuana, and when a drug lord kidnaps O, they jump into action in true Oliver Stone style – he looks here to be channeling his

Natural Born Killers

energy more than, say, his presidential biopics.

Savages

plays at 5:00 and 8:00 on Friday and Saturday.

Stick around Friday night after

Savages

for a special midnight screening of

Jurassic Park [6]

. Surely the plot requires no explanation, but just in case: DINOSAURS!! Definitely one to catch on this rare occasion to see it on the big screen.

As usual, admission to the Floyd is $1.50 for students and $3.00 for the general public. The Floyd Theater is located on the third floor of the Student Activities Center on the U of L campus (look for the clock tower). Further information can be found at the SAB Film Committee Facebook page [7].
