I don’t think that anyone would ever call me a hippie. I dress fairly conservatively; my hair is a bit on the shaggy side, but I try to keep it generally neat; my voice isn’t raspy from constant marijuana inhalation. However, I do try to buy meat which is free-range and local (I get all my eggs from a friend who keeps chickens in his backyard), I generally dislike being covered in clothing fabric, my wife and I are a bit, shall we say, progressive-minded when it comes to the topic of intimate relations, and I believe quite firmly in the idea of facial hair. Why do I mention this? Because I just watched the trailer for the film we are about to discuss. It’s posted at the end of the article. Go ahead and take a look at it. I’ll wait.
As you saw, the film in question is “Peace, Love, and Misunderstanding [4],” wherein modern woman Diane (Catherine Keener) and her two children go to visit with her mother Grace (Jane Fonda) after she and her husband decided to get a divorce. Now, Grace is a hippie, and naturally much of the comedy derives from the wacky shenanigans that come with such a silly lifestyle: chickens in the kitchen? A guy sitting at his table… in just his underwear?? Hilarious!!! Naturally, once Diane gets over her culture shock, being part of an alternate lifestyle shows her a different way of thinking about things and everybody learns valuable lessons which I’m sure will be portrayed in a completely original and non-formulaic way.
“Peace, Love, and Misunderstanding” plays at Village 8 Theater until Thursday, June 28 as part of the Louisville Exclusives series. Village 8 is located at 4014 Dutchmans Lane. Further theater information and showtimes can be found at the Village 8 website [5].
