The Paul W. Ogle Cultural & Community Center at Indiana University Southeast presents two unique music ensembles this weekend. Voces8, a choral octet composed of former a cappella singers from Westminster Abbey in England, will appear Friday, March 9 at 7:30 p.m. The Commonwealth Brass Band, a Louisville-based brass ensemble, will perform a program of midcentury dance music Sunday, March 11 at 3:00 p.m.
Voce8’s repertoire ranges from Renaissance textures to jazz and pop stylings. Their performances include such traditional songs as “Shenandoah” to Bruckner’s “Os Justi” to the theme of the James Bond film Goldeneye.
The Commonwealth Brass Band, under the direction of J. Jerome Amend and associate director Anita Cocker-Hunt, will share the stage with any audience members moved to dance to sets including tunes popularized by such big band, swing and jazz luminaries as Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington.
The Ogle Center is located at 4201 Grant Line Rd. in New Albany.
Tickets for Voces8 are $26.50, $20 for Ogle Center subscribers, or $10 for students. Admission to the Commonwealth Brass Band show is $8 for adults and $5 for students, seniors, and IUS faculty and staff. For more information, call the Ogle Center at (812) 941-2525.
