Frazier History Museum Winter Break Day Camps The Frazier History Museum will be bustling with holiday spirit thanks to its new annual exhibit Holidays Around the World (be careful—it's a potential new front in The War on Christmas). The museum is taking full advantage of the good cheer by inviting children in grades K-5 to join in the fun. Just as students begin their winter break—and parents finish their holiday shopping— the museum will offer a series of full-day programming to explore the traditional music, games, tastes, and unique festivities of year-end celebrations from all corners of the globe (including maybe even Shelbyville). Through Dec. 22 Give-A-Jam to End Homelessness The first-ever Give-A-Jam to End Homelessness will showcase many of Louisville’s talented artists including John Gage, Justin Lewis, Lee Ann Yost, Nathan Salsburg, Hog Operation, Sparkle Steve, Ted Harlan and Ben Andrews, and Marta Miranda. The event also will feature an array of soups and stews from Frankfort Avenue restaurants including Bourbon's Bistro, Crave Cafe and Catering, Majid's, Porcini, Varanese, and Volare. The participating restaurants and musicians are donating their time, and the event will be staffed entirely by volunteers to ensure tall proceeds benefit the Coalition for the Homeless. Guests can enjoy a cash bar and bid on a variety of silent auction items. All proceeds go towards the Coalition’s Rx: Housing Program. The goal for the Rx: Housing campaign is to house 75 of the most vulnerable homeless persons on the streets of Metro Louisville by December 31, 2012. Dec. 22, 7–10 p.m. Louisville Comedy Underground at The Bard's Town See Louisville's top collection of comics bring the laughs...all free. Why? Because the Bard loves ya (or to get you in the building and drinkin'). Dec. 22, 9 p.m.
Fifth Third Bank’s A Christmas Carol It's the last show in 2011 for Louisville’s self-proclaimed biggest and best holiday tradition—the classic story of Ebenezer Scrooge (ye olden version of Louisville's Mitch McConnell); Tiny Tim; and the spirits of Christmas Past, Present ,and Future, brought to life with visual splendor and the warmth of holiday music. Through Dec. 23 Our Lucky Stars with Aesthetic Versus Architecture / Talk of Spring / Aim For The Skies / The Tomorrow Boys These bands are a combination of rock, punk, and alternative music (which shouldn't be too much of a surprise given their names). Dec. 23, 7 p.m. University of Louisville Men's Basketball vs. Western Kentucky University Watch the Hilltoppers try to knock off the #4 Cardinals, end their undefeated season, and ruin the Christmas holiday for some of you fans who just care way too much. Dec. 23, 7 p.m.
Colors of the Season Colors of the Season is the essence of the holidays all rolled together into one enchanting experience. So it's like a spliff. Produced by Nashville's renowned Gary Musick Productions, this custom dinner show features a holiday story, live music, a festive dinner, classical Christmas songs, and dancing. Through Dec. 24, 1 and 7 p.m. Christmas Eve Bash at Maker's Mark Lounge Skip those boring holiday parties and join Maker's Mark as it rings in the Christmas holiday with DJ DV8 an excellent source of vegetable nutrition) and 100.5 Gen X Radio. Dec. 24, 8 p.m. Comedy Caravan Presents Stewart Huff Featuring Brent Terhune "Stewart may be one of the best comedy writers America has seen since Woody Allen. He is able to pull comedy from subjects that shouldn’t be able to illicit anymore jokes. In his current act, he has a 15 minute joke about a kid taking a penguin from the zoo. Can any of the readers out there make even one joke about that?" - Darrin Hensley, Examiner.com. Probably not Darrin, probably not. Through Dec. 24
Christmas Night at TK's Pub The holidays: spend time with the family, eat great food, open presents, laugh at the family arguments, take a nap…then get the party started (its description of Christmas, not mine). TK's Pub in Fern Creek is proud to have The Gary Sanders Band (named after Garry Shandling and his alter-ego Larry Sanders) live on stage Christmas night. Always a packed house, a good time is guaranteed. (Hold them to it.) Dec. 25, 9 p.m. The Goodtimers Annual Christmas Celebration The Goodtimers are taking you back down memory lane Christmas Night for its annual Christmas Celebration at Headliners. DJ Z-Nyce will be banging out the new hits while DJ Kaos will be taking you back to all those memorable Headliners events. Dress code will be strictly enforced: No athletic wear (even if it's the Don Sutton jersey you got for Hanukah), no ball caps, no hoodies, jeans dressed up ok / 21+. Anybody else feel a little on edge going to events with explicit dress codes that ban clothing often associated with gangs? Headliners Music Hall |
