You’ve had your chance for 16 years. Now, you have one day left.
It is the end of an era as Riverdance [4] concludes its North American tour forever this June. But Wednesday night, Louisvillians have one more opportunity to witness the Irish dance sensation as Riverdance performs at the Kentucky Center. [5]
After that, fans will need to buy an airline ticket in addition to a seat if they want to catch a show, as performances in the United States will be but a memory.
Touring Europe since 1994 and bursting onto the U.S. scene in 1996, Riverdance has enjoyed a long and celebrated run exposing millions of performance-goers to an explosion of Irish music, song and dance.
Making the Louisville performance even more special is the fact that one of Louisville’s own, Youth Performing Arts School [6](YPAS) grad, Benjamin Mapp ’03, is part of the company.
Though not an Irish dancer, Mapp brings his spectacular skills to the production as a featured soloist, and is one of two tap dancers in the show. A graduate of Pointe Park University (PA) [7], Mapp says, “This is my first time performing as a professional in Louisville, and I just can’t wait!”
In addition to his stint in the National Tour of Riverdance, Mapp has been seen in commercials for MTV, McDonald’s, Champs and Nikon, and in several off-Broadway and regional productions.
Riverdance performs Wednesday, May 16 at 7:30. Tickets range from $25-$65 and can be purchased at the Kentucky Center box office in person, online [8], or by calling 502-584-7777.
