Hairspray [5], a musical comedy set in 1962 Baltimore, features Tracy Turnblad, a big girl who's desire is to dance on the ever-popular Cory Collins show. The musical premiered on Broadway at the Neil Simon Theatre on August 15, 2002 and would go on to earn eight Tony awards, including one for best musical.
Scott Wittmann and Marc Shaiman created the lyrics while Thomas Meehan and Mark O'Donnell created the book.
For Centerstage, John R. Leffert directed Hairspray with Chris Bryant as musical director and Zachary Boone as choreographer.
Following Hairspray, Centerstage will present The Fantasticks, which is set to open in September. More information on Centerstage's upcoming season can be found at its website [6].
