Cherokee Triangle is about to get a lot safer.
Construction is nearly completed on the intersection of Cherokee Parkway and Cherokee Road at Cherokee Park’s west end. In reshaping the irregularly shaped intersection near the Willow Park gazebo, cars will have to slow down in order to turn onto Cherokee Road.
“It’ll be much safer for everybody and traffic calmer at 1400 Willow,” says Terra Long of Councilman Tom Owen (8th District)’s office, referring to the namesake condominiums that overlook the park. “People fly through there and they’ll slow down. Everybody seems to be happy with it, and we are too.” Although there currently are no plans for a bike lane, Long believes the overall safety measures will benefit all—drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians.
According to Long, construction is slated to be completed in the next couple of weeks at the latest. The project was funded by District 8, Public Works and the residents of the Cherokee Triangle Association. “It was something they wanted and desired and felt it worthy,” she says.
