Last year [4] was the first for Ferdinand's Ball [5] and this year they are coming back with a fresh face. This Oaks Eve fundraiser falls directly on Cinco de Mayo and the organizers have not let that go unnoticed. How many other Derby Parties will have a Margarita Bar?
This Oaks Eve party is unlike any other because all of the proceeds go to the horses; Isn't that what the Kentucky Derby is all about? The Ball gives awareness and of course funds to support Old Friends, a 52 acre farm in Georgetown, Kentucky that rescues and rehabilitates retired thoroughbreds. The Ball is named after the 1986 Kentucky Derby winner, Ferdinand, who was sent to slaughter in Japan after making millions while racing. The goal is for this to never happen again. Old Friends helps these thoroughbreds retire in peace when their racing and breeding days are over.
Ferdinand's Ball will be help at the Frazier International History Museum on Thursday May 5, 2011. The Red Carpet begins at 7:30pm with the main event kicking off at 9pm. There will be music by Dave Byron and DJ Brian Nickel. Hors d'oeuvres by Chef Kathy Cary of Lilly's Restaurant will be served in the VIP area, and an open cocktail bar for all, including margarita bar, with rooftop access. There will also be a silent auction and celebrity guests.
The event is to be hosted by Kate Upton, Sports Illustrated Swim Suit edition 2011 Rookie of the Year. Additional celebrities promised are DeMarsu Cousins (former UK basketball player and current NBA player for the Sacramento Kings), Djuan Trent (Miss Kentucky 2010), Mallory Ervin (CBS's "Amazing Race", former Miss Kentucky), Bonnie-Jil Laflin (NBA scout for the LA Lakers), Laura Kirkpatick "CW's "Americas Next Top Model"), LT. Governor Daniel Mongiardo, Pam Rogers (Kentucky State Director of The Humane Society of the United States), and many more.
Check out their website for ticketing [5] information. Tickets are still available. Attire is whatever makes you feel your best, but Derby attire is encouraged.
