This past weekend, mothers and daughters got to spend some quality time together at a Fashion Show, have a tea party, and benefit Kosair Children’s Hospital all while wishing American Girl a very happy birthday. Churchill Downs hosted the weekend long event on the famed Millionaire’s Row. The food and drink were specially made for the event, as decorated cupcakes and sugar cookies complimented the brightly colored flowers atop the tables.
The pre-view and tea parties included a fashion show of local young ladies dressed as American Girl Dolls, complete with hair accessories and matching shoes. All the young ladies were given a goodie bag full of American Girl items, offered photos as a memento of the event, able to browse the latest in American Girl fashions, and see examples of the life changing measures provided at Kosair’s. A few young ladies lined the runway to get a first hand view of the fashions donned by the models. The models carried the matching dressed doll in hand while two emcees shared the histories and inspirations behind the attire. So many of the younger attendees dressed like their favorite American Girl Doll, from hippies to debutantes while having a spot of tea with moms and grandmas.
The young ladies were able to have their doll's hair styled by students at the Paul Mitchell School and buy new outfits and accessories. What would a tea party be without a real life beauty queen? Well, this party was graced with the presence of Miss Kentucky USA, Kia Hampton and Miss Kentucky Teen USA, Stephanie Jones for the young ladies to see, and of course get a picture. Sponsors for the event ranged from Qdoba to The Voice-Tribune, all joining in to make the event a success for the Children’s Hospital Foundation. This event was a great way for families to have a little girl time while helping a great cause!
