There are plenty of bone-chilling haunted houses in full swing and a plethora of petrifying costume shops and yard decorations, but where (and how) can a family with small children celebrate the creepiest of all holidays? In the upcoming weeks before Halloween, check out the following not-so-scary Halloween options to ease the little ones into the spirit.
Yew Dell Gardens in Oldham County, just off the Crestwood exit, will offer a spook-free (and early) trick-or-treating extravaganza for the little ones from 10:30-3:00 p.m. on Halloween Eve (October 30th). Yew Dell and the Oldham County Library have teamed up to offer an array of treats, a jack-o-lantern contest, and a visit from Mr. Magic (2 p.m.). Suit the kiddos up in their finest pea-pods or pumpkin ensembles and head to Yew Dell for a family treat. Food and refreshments will be served.
The Museum of the American Printing House for the Blind, located at 1839 Frankfort Avenue, will host a free Halloween mask-making workshop on Saturday, October 23rd from 10:00-noon. The little goblins will love the hands-on, tactile experience and plenty of staff will guide them through the mask-making process. Geared for first-graders on up, it is totally free to the public, but space is limited. Register by Thursday, October 21st at kcarpenter@aph.org or call (502) 899-2213. Finally, don't forget about the fright-less trick-or-treating at the zoo. Test the costume before the big event and load up on all the high-fructose-corn-syrup-filled treats one can stand. And Happy Halloween (emphasis on "happy")!
