The buzz about the music and activism from Forecastle is winding down. However, I thought this story perfectly shed light on the social action and community awareness that still inspires so many. A local teenager, Whitten Montgomery, was recently awarded a $1500 grant from Do Something.org [4] and Six Flag Friends [5] for her own social action efforts in the community.
The grant asked teens from across the country to send in their social change projects. Whitten was one of literally thousands to submit their projects, but because of her dedication she became one of only six to receive the prestigious grant.
Whitten, (now 20 years old) was inspired by her own mother's battle with cancer and decided to create Kids Acting Against Cancer Inc.. [6]Through this project, she and other young actors where she and other young actors put on theater productions that have raised nearly $300,000 to make care packages for children in hospitals who are fighting cancer and to donate blood count machines to pediatric oncology units in need of new appliances.
