Cold, Cold Beverages
for Hot, Hot Days

We went from pleasant spring temperatures to melting in a
matter of minutes didn’t we? My head is still spinning and I’m really starting
to sweat. A cold beverage is in order. While I’m sure an ice cold BBC beer is on
the agenda for many folks I’m not a beer drinker so forgive my completely
beer-less top five non-cocktails to beat the heat with.

Honeysuckle Iced Tea
at Ray’s Monkey House

You’re swooning over the name alone aren’t you? It’s ok I
did too when I saw it on the menu board. It’s got a mild, smooth flavor that
makes me feel very genteel, just the way iced tea should.

Iced Coffee at
Jackson’s Organic

My love for all things Jackson’s
Organic is well known. I won’t deny it; the Jackson’s Organic folks know how to do
coffee. Recently when I stopped by to refill my can of beans (they give you a
discount if you recycle the can from your previous coffee bean purchase!) I
also got an iced coffee. It was perfectly sweetened and light and completely
hit the spot. Be careful not to bite the straw though. Christopher told me
they’re made of corn (yes, corn, strange I know) and are a little fragile.

Mocha Blended Freeze
at Highland Coffee

Yes another coffee drink. I love coffee, I’m not addicted, I
just like it. Leave me alone; seriously, I just like it, particularly when it’s
in the form of this best ever coffee milkshake-type drink from Highland coffee. It comes in a variety of flavors and
there’s even a light version. Though truthfully I’m betting “only slightly lighter”
is a more accurate description but what do I know?

Vietnamese Coffee at Zen Garden

Fine, maybe I have a slight coffee addiction. But have you
ever had Vietnamese coffee? It’s got sweetened condensed milk in it. I say
again sweetened condensed milk in coffee. The Vietnamese are clearly a
brilliant people.

Vanilla Batido at Havana Rumba

This is
maybe the best vanilla milkshake I’ve ever had. It’s got a perfect consistency.
It’s not thick like those crazy shakes you have to “drink” with a spoon. It’s
perfectly sippable and has intense vanilla flavor. I’ve heard the mango batido
is very tasty as well. I’ve just never been able to convince myself to order
anything other than vanilla.
