Walden Theatre presents their first ever George Bernard Shaw piece-An ironic examination of ideals, loyalties, and courtship in which women are the relentless pursuers and men the apprehensively pursued, as they join two families on a summer afternoon. This play displays so many of Shaw's personal beliefs-from the division of wealth, political power, the class system, education and especially parenthood, courtship and marriage, to the gulf that can exist between parent and child.

In the world of Misalliance, the new wealth of commerce and the merchant class is about to marry into the dying aristocracy. John Tarleton, self made millionaire and manufacturer of Tarleton’s Underwear, and Lord Summerhays, retired India civil servant, meet at Tarleton’s estate one afternoon in May 1909. The marriage of Tarleton’s daughter Hypatia to Summerhays' son Bentley is right around the corner. But when adventure falls-BANG! out of the sky-plans soon change. Can a misalliance be avoided? We shall see.

Ten Walden Theatre students from seven local schools rise to the challenge of this complex performance with an earnest message. Producing a play of this depth and style represents another step forward in Walden’s continuing mission to provide the highest quality arts education experience for youth in the region.
