Five years, a lot of coffee and hundreds of wishes granted have passed since 102.3 The Max’s Lambert & Lindsey Show hosted its first 36-hour on-air Request-A-Thon. From 7 a.m. on Nov. 15 to 7 p.m. the next day, hosts Lynda Lambert, George Lindsey and colleague Aaron Miller will play listeners’ favorite songs for $15 donations that benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Greater Ohio, Kentuckyand Indiana. Last year’s event raised $180,000 for the foundation, which fulfills wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.

For the threesome, staying awake for 36 hours requires much java and a good sense of humor. “One of the biggest challenges is not killing each other,” says Miller. “When you put three people in a room and deprive them of sleep for a day and a half, it’s easy to get on each other’s nerves. But we usually /files/storyimages/up more slap-happy than cranky.”

A portion of the show is aired from Fourth Street Live, where the bleary-eyed radio personalities find more shuteye-avoiding motivation from “wish kids” stopping by to make appearances, the hosts’ favorite part of the show. “That’s the thing I love most about the Request-A-Thon — watching our listeners and the rest of the community come together for 36 hours to help these very special kids,” says Lambert. “However, the thing I like least about the Request-A-Thon? Having to stand next to George and Aaron after they haven’t showered for 36 hours.”
