Whether you bleed blue or red, you have a reason to get excited about going to see your team’s football game. For the first time in a long time, there is more to look forward to on a Saturday other than eating out of your trunk for both UK and UofL fans.  But, I still must admit that tailgating is my favorite part of attending. There are many reasons for this but these are my top five favorite things about tailgating:

5.) Taunting the Opposing Fans
I believe the level of fun in this act is based upon the intensity of the rivalry between your team and the opposing team, the deeper it runs the more satisfying the taunting. For example at the UK/UL game there is a fine line between playful banter and “fightin’ words” which adds to the excitement. But on the other /files/storyimages/of the spectrum, when playing a less threatening team you might look like a jerk if in a sea of red or blue you got in the face of the lone ranger wearing green.

4.) Corn hole
I don’t know if it’s just that I didn’t notice it before or if corn hole has just gotten way more popular within the last few years. Either way I can’t get enough of it and you can find it everywhere you look when you’re tailgating.

3.) Fellow Fans
Of course it’s great getting together with friends and family and securing an already strong bond by way of football. But it’s also nice making some new friends in the parking lot. I know through first hand experience that loving the same team can often be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

2.) Food, food and more food!
As long as your cheering for the right team it’s like an endless buffet of delicious free food.

1.) Beer, Jell-O Shots, and other Concoctions
If you are in college then tailgating is exactly where you’re supposed to be. If you’re not in college than now is as good a time as any to have some hooch and reminisce.
