Disney Theatrical Productions and PNC Broadway Across America-Louisville announced today that tickets to the return engagement of Disney’s THE LION KING will go on sale to the public on Friday, December 1 online at 6 a.m. and then at a box office event beginning at 10 a.m. Louisville’s favorite stage production will begin performances at the Kentucky Center on Thursday, June 7, 2007 for a limited 5-week engagement through Sunday, July 8, 2007.
Ticket buyers are invited to special box office opening festivities on Friday, December 1, 2006 at the Kentucky Center, where ticket sales will begin promptly at 10:00 a.m. The first 100 ticket buyers will receive the original Broadway cast recording of THE LION KING and all ticket buyers will receive a THE LION KING winter hat, while supplies last. WDJX, WMJM & WXMA will be broadcasting live all day with food, fun and prizes. Santa’s Depot will also be supplying a THE LION KING themed Christmas tree which will be available to win Friday only!

Now in its tenth sold-out year in New York at the Minskoff Theatre, THE LION KING is the winner of six Tony® Awards including Best Musical, eight Drama Desk Awards, six Outer Critics Circle Awards, the New York Drama Critics award for Best Musical, the Evening Standard Award for the Theatrical Event of the Year, two Olivier Awards, a Theatre World Award, the Astaire Award for Outstanding Choreography, two Drama League Awards and a Grammy® Award for Best Musical Show Album.

Director Julie Taymor became the first woman in Broadway history to win the Tony® Award for Best Director of a Musical. Taymor, along with Michael Curry, created hundreds of masks and puppets for THE LION KING. Choreography is by Garth Fagan, scenic design is by Richard Hudson, costume design is by Julie Taymor and lighting design is by Donald Holder. The book has been adapted by Roger Allers, who co-directed the animated film and Irene Mecchi, who co-wrote the screenplay for THE LION KING. The score features Elton John and Tim Rice's music from the animated film along with three new songs by John and Rice, additional musical material by South African Lebo M, Mark Mancina, Jay Rifkin, Julie Taymor and Hans Zimmer.

THE LION KING will begin performances on Thursday, June 7, 2007. Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Friday, December 1, 2006. The performance schedule will be Tuesday through Saturday Evenings at 8 pm, Saturday Matinees at 2 pm, Sunday Matinees at 1 pm and Sunday Evenings at 6:30 pm. There will be no performance on Wednesday, July 4, however, there will be a performance on Monday, July 2 at 8 pm. Reservations for groups of twenty (20) or more are now being accepted by calling 502.569.3060 or 866.799.4008. Ticket prices range from $27 to $80 and can be purchased starting December 1 at 6 a.m. exclusively online at kentuckycenter.org or ticketmaster.com. Phone and outlet sales begin at 10 a.m. by calling the Kentucky Center box office (502.584.7777 or 800.775.7777) or visiting participating Ticketmaster outlets (502.361.3100). Premium Ticket Packages are also available for $127, and include the best seats in the theatre, a commemorative souvenir program and a VIP Disney’s THE LION KING merchandise item. Disney’s THE LION KING is presented by arrangement with PNC Broadway Across America-Louisville.
