Admission is free, parking is $7 (parking proceeds benefit the Louisville Clock restoration [4])


Balloon Festival Official Opening:
5:00 p.m. Gates open for the BALLOON GLOW:


  • Gates open at 5 p.m. grab a blanket, and come enjoy lots of food and family excitement because at dusk the balloons will fill with lots of hot air and set a glow in the background of the dark fall night! The glow is always the largest event so come early as there are lots of fun things to do from the Kids Fun Center that is free, courtesy of Meijer's and food at the Kentucky Food Court plus lots more!


  • Kids Fun Center (Free): 11 fun filled attractions for your children to enjoy all day long as many times as they want and more. Free courtesy of Meijer!
  • Rock Wall: The rock wall is open during the times the Kids Fun Center is open, the rock wall is NOT free and there is a slight charge.
  • Food Court: While you are watching the glow, listening to music, watching your children play or just watching the crowd grab a bite to eat from one of the many food locations on the field.
  • Beer Garden: Stop by the beer garden and enjoy a cool adult refreshment!
  • Balloon Education Center learn how a hot air balloon works, step into a basket experience the thrill and adventure up close and personal! Courtesy of Ferrellgas [5].
  • Balloon Glow: As dusk nears the balloons will layout and inflate for a beautiful dance among the night sky that is sure to light up your evening! Come early (6 or 6:30) as you will want to grab a spot! Sponsored by Meijer.
  • Back by popular demand! Fireworks: Stay after the glow and enjoy a great display of fireworks.

COME Early so as not to miss out on the glow and other activities.

Saturday September 30, 2006:



Admission is free, parking is $7. (parking proceeds benefit the Louisville Clock restoration [4])

7:30 a.m. BALLOON RACE.:


  • Come watch as Balloons will launch in surrounding neighborhoods and fly into Bowman Field to compete for prizes, the balloons will dip down into the field to toss at targets and will then follow the official hare balloon, "Chuggles" the Deans Milk balloon, out of Bowman Field, as the winds blow, to the final target of this two leg race. Come to Bowman as you can watch right up front as balloonist from around the United States and South America compete for one of the richest cash and prize pay outs in the United States!

10:00 a.m.: The field stays open after the race and is filled all day with these events:



  • The Kentucky Food Court, starting at 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. enjoy food such as barbecue, steak sandwiches, pizza, burritos and more!


  • Kids Fun Center (Free): 11 fun filled attractions for your children to enjoy all day long as many times as they want and more. Free courtesy of Meijer
  • Rock Wall: The rock wall is open during the times the Kids Fun Center is open, the rock wall is NOT free, there is a charge.

12 Noon



  • Car Show [6] with classic, exotic and modified cars. The car show runs from 12 noon until 4:00 p.m.


  • Beer Garden: Stop by the beer garden and enjoy a cool refreshment!


  • LIVE MUSIC: Starting at 1 p.m. listen to the classic rock sounds of Donny Dynamite and the Dynamos! FREE!


6:30 p.m. BALLOON GLOW:


  • Grab a blanket, and come enjoy lots of food and get ready because at dusk the balloons will fill with lots of hot air and set aglow in the background of the dark fall night! This will be the largest balloon glow in Kentucky's history and will be our largest attraction so come early to grab your spot to see all of the thrills, action and adventure! Sponsored by Meijer!

7:30 a.m. BALLOON MASS LAUNCHING & RACE:


  • Balloons will launch in at Bowman Field giving pursuit to the official hare balloon, "Chuggles" the Deans Milk balloon. You can watch right up front as balloonist from around the United States compete for one of the richest cash and prize pay outs in the United States!

10:30 a.m.: The field stays open after the race and is filled all day with these events:
