Old Louisville will welcome romantic spirits in its midst this Valentine season as couples flock to its Victorian streets in search of chills and romance. With the upswing in tourism that followed the May opening of the new Visitors Center in Historic Old Louisville, more and more visitors have come to “America’s Largest Victorian Neighborhood” to check out its remarkable architecture…and ghosts.  One of the nation's largest historic preservation districts, Old Louisville has gained a reputation as the most haunted neighborhood in the country, and busloads of tourists from far and wide have descended on Kentucky’s most romantic quarter to check out its haunted history and grand old mansions. In keeping with the season, TourLouisville has designed a special Valentine’s ghost tour that is sure to thrill the bravest hearts while exploring its most romantic legends and ghostly tales.

For example, guests will be treated to the tale of Lady Ross, a local socialite whose sad spirit returns to her Fourth Street home every year in November since the royal wedding there over 100 years ago. From the comfort of a 13-passenger tour bus, they will also hear the tragic leg/files/storyimages/of a jilted lover who hung herself from a tree that once stood at the center of tranquil Floral Terrace, and a knowledgeable guide will explain the scandalous circumstances surrounding the death of Alfred DuPont, a wealthy Old Louisville resident who learned just how true the old adage really is that “Hell hath no fury as a woman scorned.” And at the steps of the imposing First Church of Christ, Scientist they will hear the details of the heartrending tale of the Lady of the Stairs, a raven-haired beauty whose spirit refuses to leave the spot where she waited in vain for her betrothed so many years ago. Set against the backdrop of stained glass windows, gnarled tree branches and shadowy old mansions illuminated by gaslight, this is sure to be memorable experience for ghost enthusiasts and history buffs alike.

The cost for this romantic ghost tour is $55.00 per couple and includes a champagne toast and Happy Balls!, the official candy of Old Louisville. Tours depart at 7:30 p.m. Saturday the 10th of February through Tuesday the 14th. A special 9:00 p.m. tour will also be offered on Valentine’s Day in addition to the one at 7:30. Space is limited, so make reservations for you and your Valentine now!
