‘Music in the Metro’ showcases area parks and local music talent

LOUISVILLE (June 29, 2005) – Mayor Jerry Abramson today announced a lineup of free concerts in parks across Louisville throughout the summer.  In its third year, the “Music in the Metro” family concert series has grown bigger than ever with 14 events showcasing local musical talent in a different public park each Sunday from July 10 through October 2.

The series will kick off July 10 at Iroquois Park, near the amphitheater, featuring two bands:  Santa Barbara (salsa), and Dalton (country).  Events will run from 4:30 to 7 p.m.

“Music in the Metro gets our citizens out to visit our wonderful parks and be entertained by the wealth of musical talent in our hometown,” Abramson said.  “These concerts are a chance to bring families together to enjoy a Sunday afternoon in a beautiful park.”

The Metro Parks Festi-Van and Radio Disney will provide family-friendly games, performances and activities beginning 30 minutes prior to the concert, and during the band’s break.  Audience-participation events will energize and mobilize young concert-goers as part of the Mayor’s Healthy Hometown Movement.

Food and refreshment vendors will sell festival fare and families are welcome to bring picnic baskets, blankets and lawn chairs.

Triangle Talent is arranging the musical acts.  As with previous Music in the Metro series, the concerts will feature a wide variety of musical genres and groups, from country to jazz and soul to rock ‘n’ roll.

“Over the course of the three-month series, we’ll be in parks in every corner of the community and we’ll feature virtually every type of music under the sun,” Abramson said.

The full Music in the Metro schedule follows.  A concert series schedule will be featured on MetroTV, as well as www.loukymetro.org.
