· While Lovett has toured often in his seventeen-year career, he has not always hit the road with His Large Band. After first introducing the group in 1988, Lovett has periodically assembled the musicians for special tours in between outings with smaller groups. Lovett’s music, it remains unclassifiable, inhabiting some personal paradise where country, rock, blues and folk live in harmony, telling jokes to each other. Lovett plays country ballads that are punctuated by cello solos, and lullabies to penguins. Still no matter what style you call his music, you can be assured that, if you haven’t heard it live, you haven’t really heard it.
