The pink-striped invitation with a cut-out teapot at the top begins, "You and a Guest are invited to a Mad Hatter's Tea Party."

It conjures up visions of a group of ladies of leisure, dressed to the nines, demurely sipping tea while sitting in the shade of a large elm tree.

To a certain extent, that's what the party is - a group of women enjoying delicious, homemade baked treats and expertly brewed teas. But the guests at this party have more in common than a love of tea.

The guests all have been touched by cancer. Some are current patients, some are survivors and some have been dealing with a fri/files/storyimages/or family member's illness.

The teas, put on quarterly by the Sterling Silver Tea Ministry at Christ Church United Methodist, at 4614 Brownsboro Road, are a time for the guests to forget about cancer for awhile.

Trudy Wheeler, a member of the church, began the ministry after attending a workshop in 2004 that encouraged church members to realize their strengths and use them to help others.
