The Derby
City Movie Maniacs are kicking off the the summer blockbuster movie
season with not one, but two major film premiere parties in the month
of May. The Maniacs will take on Wolverine at 8 pm on Oaks Day, May 1st
and then tackle Star Trek at 7 pm on Saturday, May 9, both at Showcase
Cinemas Stonybrook, 2745 S Hurstbourne Pkwy Louisville, KY 40220.
As with their previous premiere party for Watchmen, The Derby City
Movie Maniacs will stage a two-hour pre-show party at Chatters Grill
within Showcase Cinemas Stonybrook. Attendees are encouraged to
participate in the theme costume contests and party games. Theme
cocktails will also be available from the full-service bar.

Kentucky native Ben Sollee’s unique performance experience and creative
vision trump his 24 years and traditional classical training; he is
poised to emerge as a solo artist, bridging genres and demographics
with earnest and dynamic songwriting. In 2007, he was named one of
NPR’s “Top Ten Unknown Artists of the Year.” His distinctive cello
technique and soulful voice have been marinating for years in his work
with avant-garde bluesman Otis Taylor, The Sparrow Quartet, (featuring
banjo-master Béla Fleck), and on the internationally known Woodsongs
Old Time Radio Hour.

Whitesell is the newest exhibitor at the Jewish Community Center of
Louisville (JCC). Whitesell’s exhibit, “Sky & Land”, will be on
display May 10 to June 30 at the Patio Gallery inside the JCC. The
exhibit will feature digital photography capturing the effects of the
seasons or time of day on the landscape.
The opening reception for Marilyn Whitesell’s “Sky & Land” is
open to the public and will be held on May 10, 2009 from 2pm-4pm.
Artists’ work will be available for sale during the exhibit.
