Derby Decades- Simply Chic: A retrospective of Derby fashion

Description:

For the first time, the great traditions of more than one hundred years
of outrageous fashion at this infamous race will be explored and
admired in one location. This exhibition will showcase the fashion of
Derby winning owners, local residents, couture designers and
celebrities through the decades. The exhibit will also demonstrate the impact fashion has on
the Derby and the economy in Louisville. The exhibit opens with a display of lavish gowns on April 10th.

Each decade since 1875 (theyear of the first Kentucky Derby) will be represented by gowns styled on 60 mannequins.  As an addition to this special collection, elaborate beaded gowns
loaned by well-known Kentucky Derby celebrity hostess Tricia Barnstable will be also be displayed.

Description:

The
Outrageous Derby Hat Contest offers a full day of fun for the whole
family. The Kosair Charities Children’s Derby Crafts area will feature
make your own Derby hat with Courier-Journal newspapers, along with the
opportunity to create Derby themed get well cards for Kosair Kids.
Donations will be accepted. Pepperdinkle & Pals will provide
storytelling and autograph sessions and the opportunity to buy
merchandise with 40% of the proceeds donated to Kosair Charities. Other
family activities throughout the Village will include music, inflatable
jumpys, Funster Shriner clowns, magicians, face painters, and sidewalk
chalk areas. Plus, all the shops and restaurants will have special
activities in store.
