Description:
An energetic group of seven young artists is at a formative point in their
careers. Each artist presented is developing an individual voice, and
as expected, the work is visceral and intuitive. All of the artists
have recently finished their Bachelor of Fine Arts and are either
enrolled in graduate school or working in their studios, and outside of
the academic environment.
As such, it is a challenging period for these young professionals.
The seven artists featured in Launchings are off to a strong career
start – each demonstrating the passion and talent required for
professional success in the visual arts. Launchings is a small exhibit
packed with big ideas, powerful images, and a “sneak peek” into the
future of visual arts in Kentuckiana.

Saturdays the Downtown Corydon Square comes alive with the sound of
banjo and fiddle playing from the nation's and region's finest

support of Women’s Equality; enjoy a short film chronicling the history
of the 19th Amendment and the fight by women to gain the right to vote

such as Annie Oakley, Joan of Arc, Juliette Gordon Low and many more!
Join us during the evening for a satirical performance of Someone
Must Wash the Dishes: An Anti-Suffrage Monologue written by Marie
Jenney Howe and performed by Michele LaRue. A reception following the
performance includes informational booths hosted by some of the area’s

National Jug Band Jubilee takes place on Saturday, August 23rd at the
Brown-Forman Amphitheater on River Road in Waterfront Park. And for the
first time, this event is FREE to the public! Gates open at noon; music
runs from 1-10pm.
Featuring music by 6 great jug bands, including Louisville favorites
The Juggernaut Jug Band! There will also be a workshop in the afternoon
- you can jam on the jug, washboard, or kazoo - as well as some great
Louisville jug band history.
Refreshments will be offered for sale. Grab a lawn chair and join us!

The Fair is
sure to go out with a bang when the “American Man Tour” hits the stage
at Freedom Hall. Brilliant singer/songwriter Keith Anderson will heat
up the stage with his hit song “Pickin’ Wildflowers” as well as songs
from his recently released album “C’Mon!” Anderson has written material
for Gretchen Wilson and Big & Rich along with his own material. The
firecracker known as Miranda Lambert will keep the audience lively in
the evening with celebrated songs such as “Gunpowder and Lead” and
“Famous in a Small Town” from her album “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” which
won the 2008 Academy of Country Music award for album of the year.
Trace Adkins will headline the tour and keep the audience on their toes
with his many hits including “You’re Gonna Miss This,” “Ladies Love
Country Boys” and “Songs About Me.”

Louisville Graphic Design Association (LGDA) will host a Lunch &
Learn on Thursday, August 21, from 12:00pm-1:00pm at the Kentucky
Museum of Art and Craft, 715 West Main Street in downtown Louisville.
Scott Soeder, Apple, Inc. Campus Representative for UofL, will discuss
Keynote ‘08 basics, as well as some advanced abilities. The event is
free for LGDA members, $10 for non-members and $5 for students. The
first 15 LGDA members to RSVP will receive a free box lunch created by
the Wiltshire Pantry, and others with a reservation can purchase a
lunch for $7.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to win an Apple Training
Series: iWork 08 Book with CD. Reservations are encouraged but not
