Song of the Week: 'Mowed Down' [2]

The latest track from Pleasure Boys [4]is one laden with strong, political undertones much like U2's 1983 hit, “Sunday Bloody Sunday,” or M.I.A’s 2010 track, “Born Free.”

“Mowed Down” explores current societal issues, specifically those involving police violence, if you didn’t already catch that from the accompanying image. The track features the likes of other local talents, Lacey Gutherie (Twin Limb [5]), Jake Philley (Cereal Glyphs [6]), and hip hop artist, Bonez [7]. The collaborative quality  gives the song a powerful momentum. Instead of one voice, there are four. Gutherie’s low, haunting vocals mixed with psych rock riffs are the fuel to the fire. Around the two-minute, thirty-second mark the fire builds into a louder, wiry sound followed by a heavy verse from Bonez. This song is catchy and representative what our local music scene can delve into.

This Friday you can catch Pleasure Boys [8], along with, Cereal Glyphs and Projector [9], at their auralgamiSOUNDS [10] release of “Pleasure.”
